So it begins

30 December 2004

I know I swore I’d never do this blog thing (I somehow associate it too closely with the negative aspects of Brooklyn, along with trucker hats and emo, for reasons I’ll never fully understand) but that was before I had the misfortune of being required to work between Christmas and New Years while everyone else was out playing. I think I finally understand the phrase “bored to tears.”

While I’m a champion time waster in my “profession,” this week I’ve reached a new low, doing approximately 45 minutes of actual work across the span of three days. Instead, I’ve been asking people what 3 songs they would bring with them on a deserted island and then laughing at their responses. Here are some of my favorite answers:

My Older Brother, the trained military assassin: Miss Independent by Kelly Clarkson, that peter gabriel song that was in the previews for Big Fish and Spanglish, and Ignition Remix. Okay, obviously the last two choices are money. And the joke about the first one pretty much writes itself. Brendan has said–on more than one occasion– that he would leave his wife for Kelly Clarkson. An officer and a gentleman…

Roommate Marie: Let My Love Open the Door (Her wedding song, which interestingly enough, did not make her fiance’s list. Way to drop the ball on that one, Kev), Anything by Train

For the record, my own choices are: To Be With You by Mr Big, Don’t Stop Believing by Journey, and Ignition Remix. Nice to know Brendan and I share more than a set of DNA.

Just in case you thought I was kidding about my current level of mental activity, I just had this exact conversation with my boss when she called to check in:

Joan: What are you doing?
Cristin: Nothing. And I’m really upset, my dad overnighted my OC DVDs to me and I have to wait until I get home to watch them.
Joan: Why don’t you just play them on your computer?
Cristin: I’ve been trying all morning. Media player won’t read it. I think I’m going to go use the 2nd floor conference room.
Joan: If that doesn’t work, just use my computer.

Good thing my performance review was on Tuesday. I would hate to see “is too focused on Fox teenaged melodrama” sandwiched between “good oral communication skills” and “is quick to help others.”

mmmm…. sandwich….
