all I want for christmas is
8 December 20061. A shin splint remedy. Thus far I’ve been (a) not running and (b) not walking to work. Whenever I wear sneakers, my right shin starts hurting. My right foot is my bigger one, and I also run funny on my right foot (left foot-normal, but on the right side I only run on the outside edge of it. whenever I try to correct it, it just feels weird). I don’t want to have to go to the doctor, and I’m buying new running shoes over christmas break, so, until then… what? eat cookies?
2. A really really kick ass banana bread recipe. Anyone?
3. Um, some ideas for what I should talk about on this here website. Otherwise you’re all about to be treated to about 2,000 words on my first car, The Tainted Love. Open call! Show me what you got!

Shin splits love me like a fat kid loves cake. Here are my suggestions:
*Ice directly on it (i.e. baggie full of ice must have contact with your skin – no wrapping-it-in-a-washcloth wimpiness) for 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off 3-5 times a night.
*STRETCH. Stand near a wall, with one foot on/against the wall, toes pointed up, and flex your foot. This will stretch out the front of your shin. You can also put one foot in front of the other, place both hands against the wall, and stretch out the front of your shin that way (by pushing).
Stretching will help and is necessary, but the ice is always the clincher for me. (I realize that the descriptions of these stretches are probably ridiculous…Google would probably help more in this case.)
